Bart Ehrman

I had the privilege of meeting and talking to one of the prominent New Testament scholars of our times, Dr.Bart D. Ehrman, last Friday 27th February. He has published several books and his newest book is 'Jesus, Interrupted' was released on 3rd March 2009. He was on National Public Radio yesterday interviewed by Terri Gross on Fresh Air where he said that from being a born again evangelical to his present disposition as an agnostic he has more been able to keep his moral compass clear now than ever. He alludes to a reason for his clarity. He believes this is the one life we have and so we should do things that would bring us happiness and enjoy it (responsibly!) . And in the process help others to realize that they don't waste theirs. Well he simply does not believe this life is a primer to the next or this is a test-run for the after-life.

I asked him what his destination in life would be if he chose this direction of scholarly pursuit. He said to me : "If I had known I would have been there already".

His other New York Times best selling books are 'Misquoting Jesus' and 'God's Problem'.

  1. We all can talk about "this life" without any qualm. Jesus said in "John 3:12 ,If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?"

I believe in Jesus and in His teachings, His vision and in what He promises, there is nothing to lose but hope.

  2. Reference Hebrews 13:9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
